Are We There Yet?
It's 9:00 PM and we finally just checked into our hotel. I'm exhausted from driving all day long. We left Flagstaff and drove north and went through Monument Valley up to 70 and across to Colorado. Jeff did all the driving today but I had to backseat drive from the passenger seat and trust me that is much more exhausting than actually driving. To be an effective and accurate backseat driver it takes years of practice and you have to be alert all the time and not intimidated by the driver's wishes for you to fall asleep or drop dead. One of the backseat driver rules is to always be sure you are the first back to the car at all the rest stops other wise you may be left there standing alone looking for a ride. Jeff only hit the rumble strip 6 times all day which may be a record. But we spent most of the day on a one lane highway with on coming huge tractor trailers and Jeff trying to pass some of these vehicles and me telling him "you're never going to make it" At one point I contemplated jumping out of the car and rolling into the desert thinking the damage would be less than hitting the on coming truck. I know it's probably not all that easy driving with me continually shouting pull over we need to take picture ~ Jeff saying "we can't pull over here" and I'll save you the rest of the conversation.
When you're driving on highways and you see kids out sitting on the Welcome to our state signs and you say " What dumb ass mom would allow their kids to get out on the highway" well it's me. We do have rules to never get out on the road side and be very alert but yes, it's still me. And when you go by and see it next time look carefully the kids are probably Cole and Jacquelyn so wave and say hi!
